Qualifying Singles Draw | Consolation Qualifying Singles | Doubles Main Draw
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - All three competing Nittany Lions came away with a victory on the first day of action at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Charlottesville, Va. Friday afternoon.
Carmen Sandor won her first match of the tournament knocking off Brittany Lang of Liberty 7-5, 6-2 to move into the second round. With a spot in the main draw on the line Sandor met Amanda Wickman of Pittsburgh but was unable to come away with the victory falling, 6-3, 6-1.
Marie-Frederique Bedard and Katherine Whiteaway each fell in the first round of qualifiers but came back to win their first round matches in the back draw. Bedard squared off against Richmond's Anna Abadias in her first round match falling, 6-2, 6-3, while Whiteaway was ousted by Olga Bredikhina of Maryland 6-0, 6-2.
In the back draw Bedard knocked off Maddie Jaeger of Georgetown, 6-4, 7-5 to move on to the second round where she'll face Anne Gulsrud of Marshall tomorrow. Whiteaway defeated Navy's Sam Droop 6-1, 6-0 and will face Carmen Lai of Delaware in the back draw second round tomorrow.
In the Nittany Lions only doubles match of the tournament, Bedard and Sandor fell to Maria Khval and Belen Rivera of Liberty, 8-6. Start times for tomorrow's matches in the consolation singles draw have not yet been released.
