OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Senior Ariel Scott has been selected from a group of 30 candidates as a finalist for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, as announced by the media committee this morning. Scott joins a group of nine other finalists, including two from the Big Ten conference. The annual award is presented to one athlete who exemplifies excellence both on and off the court.
A two-time AVCA All-American and 2012 Big Ten Player of the Year, Scott has established herself as one of the top attackers in the Nittany Lion lineup. The unanimous 2013 All-Big Ten Preseason honoree has tallied double-digit kills in 10 matches this season, while leading the team in the category nine times. Scott highlighted the season a 25- kill in a 3-2 win against Minnesota, which is just three shy of matching her career high mark set in 2011.
The 10 finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in August. To help Scott earn the award, fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website until December 9. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately at www.seniorCLASSaward.com. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character, and competition.
