UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-With one day and two rounds of golf in the books, the Penn State women's golf team continued to focus on consistent play, which paid off at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Penn State opened the first round shooting a 302 and followed that performance a couple hours later with a second round 303. Those two rounds put the Nittany Lions in a tie for fifth with Georgia State at 605 shots.
Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) jumped out to a fast start for Penn State shooting rounds of 75 and 74 to put her in 12th place with 149 strokes. Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) opened with a first round 78 and then bounced back to shoot the lowest round of the day for the Nittany Lions with an even par 72. Ceresko is tied for 13th as the third and final round commences tomorrow. Sophomore Grace Chung (Ontario, Canada) stepped up and continued consistent play with rounds of 75 and 76, tying her for 17th.
"They are playing well, but we are still looking for that team effort that we need to be on top. We simply have not gotten all five to play well at the same time, but we are close," head coach Denise St. Pierre said.
East Tennessee St. jumped out to capture the lead after two rounds with round one scores of 288 and 308 to give them a one-shot lead against tournament host, East Carolina. Avery George of Middle Tennessee holds the lead individually as she is two under par after posting rounds of 75 and 67.
The third and final round takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 8, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
