UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore goaltender Celine Whitlinger (Garden Grove, Calif.) saved 43 shots, but Penn State women's hockey fell 6-0 to Robert Morris on Friday evening at Pegula Ice Arena.

Robert Morris (8-2-0, 2-0-0 CHA), continued its winning ways by tallying two goals in each period and out-shooting Penn State 49-22. Kristen Richards scored twice and Brittany Howard notched three assists for the Colonials.

Richards scored at 5:53 in the first period before Anissa Gamble doubled the lead at 10:13. Penn State started the period by shooting five of the game's first seven shots, but RMU tallied 11 of the final 12 shots in the frame.

Thea Imbrogno made it 3-0 on the power play 5:21 into the second period, but it wasn't easy. Howard slid a pass in front of net and Imbrogno put it near post as Whitlinger's glove met the shot on the goal line. Despite the sprawling, top-play effort, Whitlinger's glove crossed the goal line and Imbrogno was awarded the goal.

Rebecca Vint scored at 11:00 for a 4-0 lead in the second before Ashley Vesci's second goal of the year opened a five-goal cushion at 6:15 in the third period. Richards capped the scoring with 1:35 remaining in the game.

For Penn State (2-7-1, 0-2-0 CHA), Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) and Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) accounted for 12 of Penn State's 22 shots, firing six each. Gross was 3-2 on faceoffs as was Emily Laurenzi (Townsend, Del.).

Penn State went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Robert Morris was 1-for-4. Whitlinger stopped 16 shots each in the second and third periods.

The Nittany Lions return to Pegula Ice Arena next Saturday for a two-game series against CHA rival Syracuse. The opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m.
