UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Despite out shooting its opponents by a 37-28 margin, the Penn State men's hockey team fell to No. 13/16 UMass Lowell, 4-0, at Pegula Ice Arena Thursday night. The Nittany Lions fell to 3-4-1 with the loss, while the River Hawks improved to 7-4-0.

UMass Lowell opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game and added three rebound goals through the second and third periods as it captured the four-goal lead. Derek Arnold led the River Hawks with two goals, while Scott Wilson (1g, 1a), Joe Gambardella (2a), Stephen Buco (2a) and Jake Suter (2a) added two-point games.

River Hawk netminder Connor Hellebuyck turned aside all 37 shots he faced, while Nittany Lion goaltender Matthew Skoff (McKees Rocks, Pa.) made 24 saves. Penn State finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while UMass Lowell went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

UMass Lowell jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the game. From the corner, Scott Wilson moved the puck behind the net to Buco. The forward then found Adam Chapie all alone in the slot for the tally.

In the second period, the Rivers Hawks added a pair of goals to take a 3-0 advantage. After Suter's blue line shot was stopped by Skoff, Wilson jammed the rebound past the goal line at 5:56. Buco also assisted on the play.

Arnold struck for his first marker two minutes later. Gambardella's initial shot was stopped, but Arnold corralled the rebound and scored. Suter garnered his second assist of the game on the tally.
