Penn State Divers to Compete at Bucknell Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State will send its men's and women's diving teams to Lewisburg, Pa. this weekend for the Bucknell invitational. Both squads will compete in the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

The diving competitions begin on Friday, with the men's one-meter and women's three-meter prelims scheduled for the 12:30 p.m. session. The finals for each event are slated to begin on Friday evening in the last session of the day, which begins at 6 p.m.

After the opening day, the men's three-meter prelims will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with the finals being a part of the 6 p.m. session that evening. The women will wrap up the invite with the one-meter diving prelims at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and the finals will be held in the final session of the weekend, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Mackenzie Cornell (Germantown, Md.) and Megan Springsteen (Oswego, N.Y.) lead the Nittany Lions' women's diving squad. Cornell, a freshman, has posted the team's highest mark in the three-meter competition this season, turning in a score of 255.83 in Charlottesville, Va. earlier this month to finish eighth. Meanwhile, Springsteen has recorded the best score in the one-meter event, achieving a mark of 242.25 in the season opener vs. West Virginia. The senior has accrued two top-three finishes this season.

On the men's side, Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, Pa.) has been the best Nittany Lion diver this season. The senior set a career-best mark of 314.48 in the three-meter diving event at Buffalo in early November. Kachurick won the competition with the score, recording the first Nittany Lion diving victory this season. The McKeesport native has also turned in the highest score in the one-meter event with a final total of 277.28 at Buffalo.

After this weekend's competition, the divers won't return to competition until 2014, when the teams will travel to Naples, Fla. to take on the Florida Gators on January 4. The swimming team is set to compete in the Texas Invitational down in Austin, Texas from Dec. 5-7.
