UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State cross country programs concluded their seasons at the NCAA championships in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday afternoon as the women's squad placed 25th and the men's team's Matt Fischer (Kennett Square, Pa.) finished in 78th place.
In the 6,000-meter race, senior Emily Giannotti (Coudersport, Pa.) paced the women's squad after crossing the finish line in 111th place with a time of 21:23.2. Junior Leigha Anderson (Carlisle, Pa.) finished in 147th place (21:38.5), while senior Marta Klebe (Chesterbrook, Pa.) crossed the finish line less than two seconds later (21:40.3) in 152nd place. Junior Katie Rodden (Ardmore, Pa.) placed 186th (21:56.0), and sophomore Tori Gerlach (Perkasie, Pa.) finished in 204th place with a time of 22:07.1.
Penn State finished with 640 points, while Providence captured the national title with 141 points. Arizona (197), Butler (200), Michigan (215) and Georgetown (226) rounded out the top five.
On the men's side, Fischer concluded his outstanding season with a 78th-place outing. The Kennett Square, Pa., native completed the 10,000-meter course with a time of 31:06.2.
The 2013 NCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships were hosted by Indiana State at the Wabash Family Sport Center's LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
