UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's hockey fought a gritty Maine squad on Saturday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena as the two teams tied 1-1. Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) scored for the second straight game and Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) saved 44 shots.

The Black Bears were aggressive early earning a 14-5 edge in shots, but the two teams skated off scoreless after 20 minutes. Yoxheimer broke the scoreless game off a feed from Hannah Hoenshell (Plano, Texas) and Jordin Pardoski (Rochester Hills, Mich.) with 5:15 left in the second period. The goal was Yoxheimer's fifth of the season, while Hoenshell and Pardoski notched their seventh and fourth assists, respectively.

The action-packed second period, which featured 32 shots, wouldn't conclude in Penn State's favor. Maine's Brianne Kilgour bagged her third goal of the year with just nine seconds remaining. In the third period, Penn State controlled the pace of play and owned a 10-8 edge in shots, but the two teams went to overtime. There, Maine out-shot Penn State, 6-0, for a final 45-30 edge in shots. Paniccia was excellent all game, saving 14 shots in the first period, 16 in the second and 14 more in the third period plus overtime.

Penn State (3-12-2, 1-7-0 CHA) stayed unbeaten in back-to-back games for the first time since the Vermont series when the Lions went 1-0-1. Maine (0-12-4, 0-7-3 Hockey East) snapped an eight game losing streak.

Both teams failed to grab a power play goal as PSU went 0-for-3 and Maine went 0-for-1. The Nittany Lions have held opponents scoreless on the power play in the last three games and four of the past five.

The Nittany Lions conclude the fall semester with a two-game road trip to Mercyhurst Dec. 6-7.
