No. 17/15 Lady Lions Host Hartford Sunday in Non-Conference Finale

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The #17/15 Lady Lions (8-3, 0-0 Big Ten) close out their non-conference schedule against Hartford (3-9) on Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday is Social Media Day where fans that follow the Lady Lions on Facebook or Twitter will receive a special offer. It is also First Responders' Day in the BJC.

PROMOTIONS: Sunday is Social Media Day for the Lady Lions. Fans that like the Lady Lions on Facebook or follow the Lady Lions on Twitter can print out a Social Media Dollar Day coupon ($1 ticket, free parking, $1 soda). The game is also First Responders' Day (EMS, Fire & Police) where first responders will receive two free tickets with the opportunity to purchase additional tickets for $5 each.

KIDS FUN ZONE: The Kids Fun Zone will be on the concourse with an airbrush tattoo artist, caricature artist, face painter and a create-a-sign station.

LIMITED BAG POLICY: Penn State has implemented a limited bag policy at all home athletic events this season. One clear plastic one-gallon plastic bag per person will be permitted for medical needs, child care needs and general items as needed. Items that can fit in a pocket should remain in patrons' pockets (i.e. keys, cell phone, wallet, glasses, camera, sunscreen, lip balm, make-up). General items of this nature, including those that don't fit in patrons' pocket, can also be placed in a clear plastic one-gallon plastic bag. All clear bags will be inspected through the bag and article check stations as in prior years.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Due to the Gas Line project, there will not be any traffic allowed northbound on Porter Road from College Avenue. All access to the parking areas off of Hastings Road (Lot 83, Lot 43, and Orange H) will be from University Drive ONLY. Access to lot 44 and the orange L parking at the Bryce Jordan Center will be from University Drive, or Porter Road southbound from Park Avenue. Due to gas line construction on Porter Rd. at Hastings Rd. the Blue Loop stops on Hastings Rd. will be closed. A temporary stop will be placed on Hastings Rd. west of University Dr. Complete route/detour details can be found at www.catabus.com.

WEBSTREAM: The game will be available on the Big Ten Digital Network (BTN.com) for a fee.

LAST TIME OUT: Senior guard Dara Taylor had a career day to pace the #18/17 Lady Lions to an 85-62 win over Alcorn State Dec. 22. Penn State had three players reach double digits and 10 players score in the victory. Taylor scored a personal best 20 points via a 9-for-12 shooting afternoon and matched her career high with seven steals. To complete her performance Taylor grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists. Taylor's backcourt mate Maggie Lucas turned in a 19-point performance, including a stellar day at the charity stripe with an 11-for-11 effort. Senior guard/forward Ariel Edwards was the third Lady Lion to reach double figures in the scoring column with 10 points to go along with two steals, while junior Tori Waldner led the team in rebounding and blocks with 10 boards and four rejections.

SCOUTING HARTFORD: The Hawks come into the Bryce Jordan Center with an overall record of 3-9, however, Hartford has won two of its last three contests with victories over Maine and Sacred Heart. All three of the Hawks' triumphs this season have come on the road. Hartford uses a very balanced scoring attack, with no individual averaging more than nine points per contest. Deanna Mayza and Amber Bepko each average 8.6 points per game to lead Hartford in scoring. Cherelle Moore is third on the team with an average of 8.3 points per game and leads the squad in rebounding at a 5.5 clip.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE HAWKS: The Lady Lions and Hartford have met just one time, a 71-65 Penn State victory in the Caribbean Challenge on Nov. 27, 2010. This match-up will mark the fifth time that the Lady Lions have played a member of the America East Conference in program history. Penn State comes into the match-up with an unblemished 4-0 record against the America East, winning a game against Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire and Stony Brook. The most recent contest came against Maine in a 95-41 win on Dec. 12, 2010 in Happy Valley.

LAST TIME VERSUS UH: The Lady Lions had their long range shoes on the last time they met the Hawks as they hit 10 three-pointers on the way to a 71-65 win over Hartford in the final game of the Caribbean Challenge on Nov. 27, 2010. Maggie Lucas was 7-for-12 from beyond the arc and finished the game with 27 points, three rebounds and two steals. Ariel Edwards registered 13 points and eight rebounds, while Alex Bentley added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and six assists. Julia Trogele accounted for seven points, seven rebounds and tied her career high with three blocks.

PURDUE GAME TIME AND TV SHIFTS: The Lady Lions' Big Ten home opener against Purdue, which was originally slated for a 2 p.m. tip, has been moved to a 3 p.m. start. Additionally, the game will now air on ESPN.

DARA'S BIG DAY: Senior guard Dara Taylor had a stellar outing against Alcorn State on Dec. 22 as she eclipsed her career-high with 20 points and tied her career-high with seven steals. Taylor's previous high was 19 points at South Dakota State on Dec. 11, 2013. She also nabbed seven steals against Northwestern on Jan. 3, 2013. Additionally, Taylor had four assists to surpass 400 in her career, finishing with 402.

NICE OUTING FOR NEWBIES: Freshmen Peyton Whitted and Jenny DeGraaf had solid performances against Alcorn State on Dec. 22. Whitted tallied a career-high six points, surpassing her previous high of four points in the season opener vs. St. Francis (Pa.). DeGraaf also tallied a career high with five points and made her first career three-pointer. Her previous high was two points vs. Bucknell.

The Lady Lions open conference play with a pair of road games at Iowa on Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. and at Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m., a game that will air on the Big Ten Network. Penn State's Big Ten home opener will take place on Sunday, Jan. 12 against Purdue at 3 p.m. on ESPN.

Lady Lion Basketball single-game and season tickets are available by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Single-game tickets are $15 and $12 for adults and seniors and $9 and $7 for youth (12 and younger). Season tickets are $99 for adults and $50 for youth (12 and under), this includes a Nittany Lion Kids Club Membership for 2013-14. New this year, the Lady Lions have introduced a Family Season Ticket package. For $200, fans will get two adult tickets and two youth tickets for the 2013-14 campaign. The PNC Flex Books are available again this year for $99. The Flex Book gives fans 12 vouchers, 10 that can be redeemed in any combination for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets throughout the year and two extra vouchers for the Nittany Lions' Coaches Vs. Cancer game and the Lady Lions' Pink Zone game.

The 2014 Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16 as the Lady Lions take on Wisconsin in the Bryce Jordan Center at 1 p.m. Last year, the Lady Lions donated a record $260,000 to breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C.
