UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The #11/10 Penn State Lady Lions (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) will have their first true road game when they visit Georgetown (5-2) Sunday at 2 p.m. It will be the first visit to our nation's capital for the Lions since 2006. LAST TIME OUT: The Lady Lions were plagued by 22 turnovers and significant foul trouble among their starters as they dropped a 77-67 decision to #5/4 Notre Dame in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Wednesday. Ariel Edwards led the way with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. The senior guard/forward also added three rebounds and an assist. Senior point guard Dara Taylor tied her season high with 14 points to go along with six assists, three steals and three rebounds. Talia East turned in a solid performance as she poured in a career-high 12 points and grabbed eight boards. East was the Blue and White's most efficient scorer, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and a flawless 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas are 5-2 on the season, including winning the Great Alaska Shootout. Natalie Butler averages a double-double to pace Georgetown, accounting for 16.4 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. She also has 12 blocks on the season. Andrea White is connecting on 58.2% of her shots from the field while averaging 14.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per outing. Katie McCormick is the third Hoya averaging double figures at a 12.6 clip. She is Georgetown's top three-point threat, hitting a team-best 17 triples this season.
ALL-TIME VERSUS THE HOYAS: The Lady Lions are 4-1 all-time against Georgetown, including a 1-0 mark in road games. This will be Penn State's first visit to McDonough Arena since Dec. 17, 2006 when the Lady Lions topped the Hoyas, 52-44. Kam Gissendanner had 12 points in that win in DC to lead the Lions.
LAST TIME VS. GU: Maggie Lucas scored 26 of her career-high and BJC-record 39 points in the first half to lead the Lady Lions a 97-74 victory over Georgetown on Dec. 9, 2012. Lucas was 11-for-21 on the day from the field and converted on 7-of-13 three-point attempts en route to her third career game with 30 or more points. Alex Bentley had one of her best outings of the 2012-13 campaign, tallying a season-best 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Ariel Edwards tallied 11 points of 5-of-6 shooting from the field to reach double figures for the third straight game, while Nikki Greene grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
FEELING CHARITABLE: Senior guard Maggie Lucas has made her last 26 shots from the free throw line, dating back to the UConn game on Nov. 17. She is hitting on 97.9% of her shots from the free throw line, which is second in NCAA Division I. Lucas has made 56 of her last 57 shots from the charity stripe, dating back to last season.
DUO BLOCKING THE LANE: Senior center Talia East and junior center Tori Waldner have made it tough for opponents to find success in the lane as the pair have moved into the Top 20 in school history in blocks. East moved into a tie for 17th place in program history with three rejections against Notre Dame on Dec. 4 to bring her career total to 66. East is tied with Adrie DeVries (66; 1987-90) for the 17th spot. East needs one rejection to move into a tie for 16th place with Janessa Wolff (67; 2008-10). Waldner has 58 career blocks to sit 20th on the Lady Lions' career blocks list. She needs three rejections to tie Tanisha Wright (61; 2002-05) for 19th place.
The Lady Lions continue their road swing at South Dakota State on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. (ET). Penn State returns home to face nationally-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. for the Toys for Tots game. Additionally, fans will get a Talia East mini-bobblehead while supplies last as the second in a series of six giveaways.
Lady Lion Basketball single-game and season tickets are available by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Single-game tickets are $15 and $12 for adults and seniors and $9 and $7 for youth (12 and younger). Season tickets are $99 for adults and $50 for youth (12 and under), this includes a Nittany Lion Kids Club Membership for 2013-14. New this year, the Lady Lions have introduced a Family Season Ticket package. For $200, fans will get two adult tickets and two youth tickets for the 2013-14 campaign. The PNC Flex Books are available again this year for $99. The Flex Book gives fans 12 vouchers, 10 that can be redeemed in any combination for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets throughout the year and two extra vouchers for the Nittany Lions' Coaches Vs. Cancer game and the Lady Lions' Pink Zone game.
The 2014 Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16 as the Lady Lions take on Wisconsin in the Bryce Jordan Center at 1 p.m. Last year, the Lady Lions donated a record $260,000 to breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C.
