Goodell Earns EIVA Offensive Player of the Week Honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After helping the No. 12 Penn State men's volleyball team (8-2) to its eighth consecutive victory over the weekend, redshirt junior Nick Goodell has earned his first EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.

Goodell closed out the week ranked second on the team with 45 kills, averaging 4.50 kills per set on a team-high .468 hitting clip. He also led the squad with eight aces, while also ranking second on the team with six total blocks, including two solo stuffs.

In a midweek Big Ten matchup against Ohio State, Goodell fueled the offense with a season-high 20 kills on .533 efficiency. He also added a season-high four aces to go along with three digs and three blocks. He opened the weekend with a double-digit performance against Erskine, tallying 10 kills, one ace, four digs and two blocks in the win.

Goodell returned to the court the next evening to guide the Nittany Lions to another straight-set victory. Against Pfeiffer, he ranked second on the squad with 15 kills, marking his fourth consecutive match with double figure kills.

In the national standings, Goodell's 0.46 aces per set ranks 10th and third in the conference, while his 3.26 kills per frame ranks him 31st nationally and third in the EIVA.

Goodell and the rest of the No. 12 Penn State men's volleyball team will remain home this weekend, hosting a pair of EIVA conference contests. The Nittany Lions welcome NJIT to main gym at Rec Hall Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., before square off against Rutgers-Newark Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. in south gym.
