UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Evonne Britton (El Paso, Texas) was named Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at last weekend's Penn State National. Britton set the new Penn State record in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday.
"It's an honor to have her earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week. She set a new school record and performed tremendously this past weekend," said Director and Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan. "The Big Ten is so competitive, so it's a real challenge to win this award. We're really proud of this honor bestowed on her."
Britton's time of 8.15 is currently tied for seventh in the country this season.
This is Britton's first indoor track and field weekly award of her career.
Britton becomes the first Penn State Indoor Track Athlete of the Week since Mahagony Jones won the award for the week of Jan. 9, 2012.
