Penn State Set for SunTrust Gator Invitational

March 12, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Coming off a second-place finish at the Kiawah Island Classic, the Penn State women's golf team is ready for their next challenge. This week, the Nittany Lions travel to the 42nd annual SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida. The tournament will be played at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The three-day event begins Friday, March 14 with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament concludes Sunday, March 16 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Oklahoma (8), Arizona (10), and Florida (17) highlight the 14-team field as the trio of teams are all ranked within the top 20 in the Golf World/WGCA Division I College Coaches' Poll. Florida State, Furman, Kent State, Miami, Ohio State, Old Dominion, Texas A&M, USF, UTSA, and Virginia round out the rest of the competitive field. Penn State enters the week ranked 72nd in the Golfstat rankings, which is up two spots from last week's positioning.

Last week, junior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) posted an eighth-place finish at the Kiawah Island Classic, marking her first top-10 finish of the season. She also shot a season low 72 in the first round of the tournament. As a team, Penn State's second-place finish at the Kiawah Island Classic marked their best finish of the season since capturing the title at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in October 2012.
