Penn State Third After Round One at SunTrust Gator Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State women's golf team opened the first round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational with their second lowest team score of the season, registering a 293. This placed the blue and white in third place, just one stroke behind co-leaders Ohio State and Florida State. This is the third time this season that the Nittany Lions have shot a 293, having also occurred in the Nittany Lion Invitational and the Hoosier Fall Invitational.

Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) recorded her second lowest score of the season as she posted an opening round 70, placing her in a tie for second. The even par round puts Ceresko just one shot behind the leader. Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) and sophomore Grace Chung (Ontario, Canada) are both tied for 25th after first round scores of 74. Junior Katlyn Elliott(Peterborough, Ont.) recorded a 75 and is in a tie for 38th.

"We had a gameplan and stuck to it," head coach Denise St. Pierre said. "I am very proud of them. We need to be able to manage the greens and we should be able to stay in the hunt."

Ohio State and Florida State are tied for the lead as both schools posted opening round scores of 292. Karolina Vlckova of Florida leads the individual championship after her first round 69.

Round two tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. as junior Catherine Herrera(Houston, Texas) start's the Nittany Lions off and concludes with Ceresko teeing off at 9:36 a.m.
