UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- As the Penn State baseball team prepared for their first home games of the season following a road trip to California in which they went just 2-6, head coach Rob Cooper issued a challenge to his players; find a way to win back-to-back games for the first time all year.

Although the Nittany Lions had shown flashes of potential over the first month of their season, the consistency Cooper had been stressing was still eluding them.

Going up against NYIT on consecutive evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday, Penn State did what they had not been able to do against their previous six opponents, taking two straight from the Bears by scores of 7-3 and 8-0, respectively.

"It was good to play at home and to see our guys carry over a win to the next day and stay hungry," Cooper said. "We competed for 18 innings but the biggest thing was their energy from a competition standpoint and playing the game more consistently."
