COLUMBUS, OHIO -

The Penn State men's golf team improved three places in the second round of the Kepler Intercollegiate Saturday to stand tied-for-11th overall. The Nittany Lions will enter the final 18 holes with a 601 (308-293) team tally.

Sophomore JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) started strong on the links, shooting a career-low 68 in round two. His even par 142 places him tied-for-fifth after 36 holes of play. Junior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) is tied-for-45th with a 151 (74-77) mark, while sophomore Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) will go into the final round of the tournament with a score of 153 and a tied-for-58th ranking.

Senior Shane Stewart (Dublin, Ohio) rounded out the scoring contribution, posting straight 78's in rounds one and two on the Scarlet Course. Freshman Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) concluded the opening rounds with a 163 (82-81).

Georgia Tech holds a four-stroke lead over UAB in the team rankings, but it's Ohio State's Frederik Hammer who holds the first place individual position with a 3-under 139. T
