Bucknell Outdoor Classic Results

Penn State's track & field teams rounded out competition at the Sun Angel Classic and started it off at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic Saturday.

The bulk of the team's competitors were at the Sun Angel Classic, and several Nittany Lions performed well in Tempe.

Senior Brittney Howell (Wyncote, Pa.) continued to have a great outdoor campaign, and won the premiere long jump with a leap of 20-2.25. She also finished first in the 100 hurdles, tying teammate Evonne Britton (El Paso, Texas) with a time of 13.45.

Redshirt-senior Mahagony Jones (Cleveland, Ohio) brought home a pair of second place finishes in the premiere 100 meters in a time of 11.45, her season best, and the premiere 200 meters in 22.97 seconds. Her time in the 200 moves her up to second on the all-time list at Penn State behind only Nittany Lion great Connie Moore. Kiah Seymour (Washington, D.C.) ran a 57.07, a new PR for the sophomore in the premiere division of the 400 hurdles. She finished second.

Freshman Lexi Masterson (Jeannette, Pa.) brought home a first place finish in the premiere pole vault with a 12-06.00. Senior Erika Morgan (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior Sarah Palmer (Gansevoort, N.Y.) cleared 5-07.75 in the high jump to take third in the competition.

In the premiere hammer throw, senior Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster, N.Y.) measured a toss of 198.03, which was good enough for second place. She also finished fifth in the premiere discus with a throw of 164-11. The Nittany Lions' standout javelin duo on the women's side finished 2-3 at the meet, with senior Laura Loht's (McClure, Pa.) best throw of the day measuring at 170-03. Loht's toss was second on the day, while teammate junior Lauren Kenney (State College, Pa.) threw a 164-03, which was third.

The women's 4x400 meter relay crossed the line second with a time of 3:35.15.

On the men's side at the Sun Angel Classic, freshman Byron Robinson (Chesapeake, Va.) finished third in the premiere 400 meters in a time 46.12, which gives the newcomer the fourth-best time in Penn State history. Also on the track, junior Sancho Barrett (Amityvile, N.Y.) was third in the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.22.

Darrell Hill

As the Nittany Lions did on the women's side of the premiere javelin, the men also finished second and third. Freshman Cole Proffitt (Manheim, Pa.) threw for 217-09 and placed second in the men's premiere javelin, while Michael Shuey (Johnsonburg, Pa.) tossed a 213-09, which was third overall. Junior Darrell Hill (Philadelphia, Pa.) was second in the premiere shot put with a throw of 57-01.50.

In the men's triple jump, junior Brian Leap (Bellwood, Pa.) had his best jump measure 49-05.50 for a second place finish.

The men's 4x100 meter relay was also second on the day with a time of 41.54.

At Bucknell, several Nittany Lions found success, including Penn State's 1500 meter runners. Senior Marta Klebe (Chesterbrook, Pa.) won the 1500 meter invite in a time of 4:23.47. In the men's race, it was sophomore Brannon Kidder (Lancaster, Ohio) that crossed the line first in 3:42.99.

Running unattached, freshman Connor Quinn (Horsham, Pa.) put up a time of 14:25 to win the 5000 meters.

Penn State will compete in the final day of the Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday, April 13.
