UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The 27th annual SAAB Academic Achievement Awards Banquet took place on Tuesday night, distributing 387 awards to Penn State student-athletes. A record 295 awards were presented to student-athletes for their academic accomplishments in 2012-13, sponsored by the Milton and Lois Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes and the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB).
The women's golf team, led by head coach Denise St. Pierre, was awarded the Varsity `S' Award, presented to the women's team with the highest GPA. The girls did not stop there as they also earned the Milt Morgan Jr. Highest Team GPA award for all sports. The golf teams swept the team grade point average awards as the men's golf team was presented with the Varsity `S' award for highest men's team GPA.
Penn State's 31 varsity teams combined to earn a grade-point average of 3.10 as the 15 women's programs recorded a 3.26 GPA. A school record 468 Penn State student-athletes earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall 2013 semester.
Penn State closes out their regular season at the Big Ten Championships next Friday in French Lick, Ind. The three-day tournament begins on Aril 25 and concludes on April 27.
