UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After sparking the Nittany Lions' 12-10 come-from-behind victory against then-No. 7/5 Johns Hopkins Friday, April 18, sophomore midfielder Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) earned American Lacrosse Conference Offensive and WomensLax.com Player of the Week honors.
The Westminster, Md., native garnered ALC and WomensLax.com recognition for the first time in her career. The sophomore led Penn State with four second-half goals, including three in a 26-second span, during the team's pivotal conference victory. The midfielder, who netted at least four goals in a game for the fourth time this season, added a game-high five draw controls along with two ground balls.
In 2014, Cyr ranks fourth in the conference in caused turnovers per game (1.27), fifth in goals per game (2.47), sixth in goals (37), eighth in points per game (2.87) and 10th in points (43). The standout paces the Nittany Lions with 43 points and 37 goals and ranks second in caused turnovers (19) and third in draw controls (28).
Cyr and the Nittany Lions (9-6, 3-3 ALC) will close out the regular season Saturday, April 26 when they host Princeton at the Penn State Lacrosse Field for their annual Senior Day matchup at 3 p.m. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Penn State will compete in the ALC tournament, beginning May 1, at Northwestern's Lakeside Field. The fourth-seeded Nittany Lions will face either Johns Hopkins or Vanderbilt in their first-round game at 3 p.m.
