UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After an outstanding final home meet, senior Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster, N.Y.) has earned Big Ten Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Kurzdorfer won the hammer and the discus throw at the Jim Thorpe Invitational last Friday.
Kurzdorfer's throw of 204-7 in the hammer is currently 13th nationally and leads the Big Ten. She also won the discus with a throw of 164-03. The Big Ten weekly award is the second of her career.
Penn State takes on the conference field at the Big Ten Championships this weekend, May 16-18, at Purdue.
