Dornes shot a 1-over 71 and finished second at the Blue Ridge Country Club in Harrisburg, Pa. Thursday to secure his spot in the sectional.
The two Penn Staters are among a record-breaking 10,127 players attempting to qualify for the 2014 U.S. Open, scheduled for June 12-15 at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
