UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising senior Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) won the 27th New York City Amateur golf tournament Sunday at the LaTourette course on Staten Island.
McDonald-Smith shot a 68-69-72 to total a 209 three-round score, edging second-place finisher Matthew Lowe by just one stroke. Over 200 players from three qualifying sites competed to advance through the final cut of 47.
McDonald-Smith competed in nine of ten events for Penn State during the 2013-14 season, including the Big Ten Championships and three top-20 finishes.
