FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Penn State men's golf team will enter the final 18 holes of the 2014 Big Ten Championships in ninth place with a 922 (307-300-315) team score on the Pete Dye Course.
Junior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) continues to lead the Nittany Lions with a tied-for-24th ranking on the individual leaderboard. Talbert posted an 81 in the third round to hold a 230 mark going into the final day of play. Sophomore Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) trails Talbert by one stroke (231) and is tied-for-29th.
Juniors Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) shot a 78 and 79, respectively, in round three to earn 233 54-hole tallies. Sophomore Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) will enter the final round of his Big Ten Championship debut with a 242 mark.
Minnesota took sole possession of first place Saturday, firing a 301 round three score to bring the Golden Gophers to an 896 overall. Jose Mendez continues to lead the field with an even par 216.
