UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
All seven Penn State men's golfers who were eligible for the distinction were recognized as Academic All-Big Ten Honorees Wednesday.
JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.), Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.), Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.), Shane Stewart (Dublin, Ohio), Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.), Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.), and Ryan Worthy (Chester Springs, Pa.) were named to the list of 45 men's golfers in the conference. A total of 1,216 student-athletes achieved this honorable distinction.
"All of these guys face challenging major programs while being involved with a two-semester sport," said head coach Greg Nye. "Golf is a sport that requires long travels and competitions that soak up most of the hours we are on the road. I am super impressed with what they have achieved."
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
