Penn State Alumni Challenge for Former Student-Athletes April Update

May 8, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - With less than 2 months left in the challenge, the competition among our teams is increasing daily. The number of former student-athletes supporting our programs continues to rise as the challenge nears the finish.

With ten months of the challenge under our belt, our teams still have their sights set on winning one of the grand prizes. Currently 2,170 former student-athletes have contributed to their programs through the Nittany Lion Club (NLC). New supporters to the challenge have made a strong showing; of the former student-athletes who have joined the challenge 19% are new donors.

Five teams are in the lead and are eyeing the first part of the $6,000 prize, which is reserved for the team with the highest percentage of former student-athletes supporting Penn State Athletics. Among them, the top teams with the highest percentage of former student-athlete support are; men's ice hockey (37.29%), women's ice hockey (29.47%), football (27.43%), men's lacrosse (24.02%) and men's volleyball (18.67%).

Three teams have taken a step forward in winning the second prize of $6,000 for the team with the highest percentage increase of former student-athlete donors over last year. The women's ice hockey program is 8.42% percent ahead of last year's numbers, men's ice hockey 1.66% and the men's golf program 1.25% ahead of 2013's numbers.

The time to support is now. It's not too late for the other teams to rally and catch the leaders! Give back and help your team race to the top to win the grand prize! To see your team's results and to see which of your former teammates have supported the challenge thus far, visit the Alumni Challenge Page on our website.

If you wish to make a donation using a check, please address it to Penn State University and mail it to 157 Bryce Jordan Center, University Park, PA. 16802. All gifts through the Nittany Lion Club are tax deductible.

Without donor support, our student-athletes wouldn't be able to compete and learn at the highest level. Penn State would like to thank our former student-athletes and all of our donors for your continued generosity to Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics.
