Six Nittany Lions' will travel to the USATF Senior and Junior Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California to compete against the nation's best athletes at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium.
Looking to advance to another IAAF World Championships, Evonne Britton (El Paso, Texas) is set to compete in the 100-meter hurdles. Britton represented the United States at the 2010 IAAF Junior World Championships in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles after qualifying in the 2010 USATF Junior Championships.
Fighting for an IAAF World Championships spot, Kiah Seymour (Washington, D.C.) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Seymour ranks third nationally in the event after a sixth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Making her first career appearance at the competition, Mahagony Jones (Cleveland, Ohio) will compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. At the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Jones blazed to a fourth-place and seventh-place finish in the 200 meters and the 100 meters, respectively.
A trio of three Nittany Lions' will compete in the field events including redshirt-sophomore Michael Shuey (Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania) who will compete in the javelin throw. Shuey finished sixth in the javelin at the 2013 Junior Championships. Also throwing for Penn State is junior Laura Loht (McClure, Pennsylvania). Loht set the Penn State javelin record at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a toss of 178-6. The McClure native completed at the 2013 USATF Championship with a fifth-place effort in the javelin.
Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year, Darrell Hill (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) will compete in the shot put, which will take place in front of the California State Capital. Hill was also named Big Ten Athlete of the Championships after winning the shot put title with a toss of 20.57 meters (67-6).
A number of alumni will also compete throughout the weekend. Alumni Joe Kovacs will throw against junior Darrell Hill in the shot put.
A 2012 Olympic finalist, Bridget Franek looks for her third straight appearance at the IAAF World Championships in the steeplechase. The alumni competed for the United States in 2009 and 2011. Joining Franek is Casimir Loxsom and Kara (Millhouse) Foster who will compete in the 800-meter and 10,000-meter, respectively.
