Dornes, Houston Qualify for U.S. Amateur

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising juniors JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) and Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) have qualified for the United States Amateur, taking place Aug. 11-17 at the Atlanta Athletic Club (Highlands Course) in Johns Creek, Ga.

Dornes qualified at the Country Club of Harrisburg in Harrisburg, Pa. with a two-round score of 140 while Houston shot a 147 at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, Mass. to advance.

The U.S. Amateur Championship began in 1895 and is the oldest golf championship in this country. The USGA accepted 6,803 entries for the 2014 championship, 200 fewer than in 2013.

Atlanta Athletic Club's Highlands Course will be set up at 7,490 yards and will play to a par of 35-36-71. The companion stroke-play qualifying course, Atlanta Athletic Club's Riverside Course, will be set up at 7,381 yards and will play to a par of 36-36-72.
