Nittany Lions Shine on Final Day of NACAC U-23 Championships

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, Canada - On the final day of the 2014 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships, Penn State student-athletes won three medals. The day was highlighted by a gold medal effort by Kiah Seymour (Washington, D.C.) in the 400-meter hurdles.

Seymour won the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 56.35 seconds.

Darrell Hill (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Steve Waithe (Parkville, Md.) also found themselves on the podium Sunday. Hill placed second in the shot put with his distance of 61 feet, 10 1/4 inches and Waithe posted a second-place finish in the triple jump with his mark of 52-3 3/4.

In all, Penn State student-athletes won two gold and two silver medals at the 2014 NACAC U-23 Championships.

The U.S. men's distance team picked up more hardware Sunday. The U.S. nabbed second- and third-place in the 20,000-meter race walk event. Emmanuel Corvera ran a time of 1:31:30.86 for second and Alejandro Chavez took third with his final time of 1:33:26.31.

In the men's 800-meter run, Christopher Low finished third with his overall time 1:48.46.

The U.S. men's distance team also finished second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mason Ferlic (9:04.78) placed second and Edward Owens (9:18.87) claimed third.

Overall, interim head coach John Gondak and the U.S. men's distance team won two gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
