Nittany Lion Alum Welch Signs Pro Contract

UNVIERSITY PARK, Pa. - Former Penn State women's hockey forward Jenna Welch will be the first Nittany Lion in program history to play professional hockey this fall it was announced Monday. Welch will play for the DEC Salzburg Eagles of Austria in the Elite Women's Hockey League.

Welch, a forward who played at Penn State in both varsity years, will play for the Eagles, who finished third in last year's standings of seven teams in the Elite Women's Hockey League. Welch served two seasons as captain for the Nittany Lions in 2012-13 and 2013-14 amassing five goals and four assists in 71 career appearances in the Blue & White.

The Eagles begin the 2014-15 EWHL season in September. The EWHL has been in existence since 2004 and features teams four teams from Austria and one each from Italy, Hungary and Czech Republic.
