UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Four different players scored for the No. 6 Penn State field hockey team in the 5-1 win over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at the Field Hockey Complex. Senior Jenna Chrismer (Mountain Top, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions with two goals.

"(Laura Gebhart's) goal was beautiful, just working her way in there, same with Jenna (Chrismer)," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. "Kirsten (Gochnauer) put a good ball in there and Emilee (Ehret). So, it's great goal production but I felt it could have been a cleaner game for us."

Penn State improved to 5-1 on the season, while Lafayette fell to 4-2. The Nittany Loins held a 27-3 advantage in shots and a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Leopards earned an early corner just four minutes into the game and Kelsey Mead found the back of the cage to make it 1-0 with 29:06 remaining in the first half.

The Nittany Lions answered, earning a corner with 20 minutes left in the half. Sophomore Emilee Ehret (Philadelphia, Pa.) inserted a pass to the top of the circle. Following a shot that ricocheted off the post, Ehret collected the ball and put it in the back of the cage to knot the game at 1-1 with 19:30 on the clock.

Just over a minute later, senior Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) put a shot on goal that was saved. Chrismer grabbed the rebound and put it in, giving the Nittany Lions a 2-1 advantage with 18:25 to go in the half.

With 13:40 remaining in the opening period, Chrismer struck again. This time, she dribbled in from the end line and fired a shot from right of the cage that found its way past Lafayette goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch. The Nittany Lions would take the 3-1 lead into the break.

The second half of the contest began with a string of penalty corners for the Nittany Lions.

Later, senior Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) dribbled in and found open space in front of the cage, scoring an unassisted goal and lifting the Nittany Lions to 4-1 with 16:13 left to play.

Sophomore Kirsten Gochnauer (Mount Joy, Pa.) added the final Penn State goal, the first of her career, on an assist from Herold and increased the score to 5-1 with 13:57 left in regulation.

The NIttany Lions are back in action at home, taking on Michigan in the Big Ten opener on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
