MEADOWS OF DAN, Va. - Penn State fired a 26-under 838 (280-278-280) team score at the Primland Collegiate Invitational Tuesday to finish third in a nine-team field and solidify the team's best start since 2007.
The Nittany Lions were led by freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.), who matched his career-low single round tally of 66 in round three to post an 11-under 205 at the Primland Resort. Miller rose from a tied-for-12th place position on day one to finish tied-for-third overall.
Junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) finished tied for 15th, nailing a 6-under 210 three-round score. Senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) was the third Penn Stater to finished in the top-25, shooting a 213 and earning a tied-for-24th ranking.
Sophomores Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) and Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) shot 54-hole scores of 214 and 218, respectively.
Wake Forest held on to first by just one stroke, edging Auburn with an 826 team tally. Auburn again fell by a stroke on the individual leaderboard, as North Carolina's William Register shot a 199 to outlast Michael Johnson's 200.
Penn State will look to continue its strong season showing at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Oct. 10-12.
