Ficken Receives Ironman Honors for Croke Park Classic Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Placekicker Sam Ficken has been named the Iron Workers Union No. 3 "Ironman of the Game" for his performance in Dublin, Ireland at the 2014 Croke Park Classic last week. Ficken won the game for the Nittany Lions after nailing a 36-yard field goal.

Ficken, a co-captain for the 2014 season, finished the season-opener 4-for-4 on field goal attempts. He was announced the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday for the third time in his career.

Last season, Ficken connected on a 54-yard field goal attempt recording the longest field goal by a Penn State player in home game. He registers a consecutive connection streak of 15 field goals beginning in the 2012 season and rounding out in 2013. The senior earned 86 points for Penn State last year.
