Men's Volleyball Represented at 2014 FIVB World Championship

Sept. 5, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Six former Penn State men's volleyball Nittany Lions are currently competing in the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championships in Poland. Representing three different countries, Nittany Lions Matt Anderson ('08), Max Holt ('09), Edgardo Goas ('12), Dennis Del Valle ('11), Carlos Guerra ('03) and Ivan Contreras ('97) are all involved in the worldwide event.

Anderson and Holt are presently playing with Team U.S.A. while Goas and Del Valle are both playing on the Puerto Rican national team. Goas is playing with the Mexican national squad and Contreras is serving as an assistant coach with Mexico. With the six participants, Penn State has more former players represented in the 201 FIVB Volleyball World Championships than any other men's volleyball program in the country.

In yesterday's First Round matchup, Anderson and Holt notched their second "Pool D" victory with a straight-set win against Puerto Rico, lined up across from Goas and Del Valle. Team USA is slated to face France Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 a.m. ET before taking on Italy in the final match of first round pool play Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2:15 p.m. ET.

Competing with Mexico in "Pool C," Goas and Contreas lost to Bulgaria and China earlier this week, but will look to rebound with matches against Russia Friday, Sept.5 and Canada Saturday, Sept. 6. Fans can catch a free live stream of the Team USA matches via Bein Sports Connect TV, here.
