ROSEMONT, ILL. - Following a pair of team-high performances last weekend, freshman Ali Frantti has earned her second consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the conference this afternoon.
Frantti opened the weekend with her first collegiate double-double against then-No. 2 Stanford, posting a match-high 22 kills on .405 hitting, adding 11 digs and two blocks. The next evening, she returned to the court to lead the offense with her fourth double-digit kill performance of the season, putting down 14 kills on .619 hitting, adding five digs in a straight set victory against UCLA.
She closed out the weekend with a team-high 36 kills on .476 hitting, averaging 4.50 kills per set. Overall, her .479 cumulative hitting clip ranks second in the Big Ten, while her 3.94 kills per frame ranks third in the conference standings.
Frantti and the rest of the No. 3 Penn State women's volleyball team (4-1) remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Villanova Classic. The Nittany Lions open the tournament with a pair of matches Friday, Sept. 12 against RV American at 2:30 p.m. and the Wildcats at 7:30p.m. PSU is back in action the next day, Saturday, Sept. 12 with a noon matchup against Yale before squaring off against No. 24 Kansas at 5:30 p.m.
