JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The Penn State men's golf team shot a 278 Saturday in tough weather conditions to move up in the standings to third place overall in a 15-team field with a 7-under 569.
"It was a long day of starts and re-starts, but our guys were ready to answer the bell each time today," head coach Greg Nye said. "The guys just played so consistently on a day with a big weather challenge to be consistent."
Junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) fired a 69 at the Blackthorn Club on day two to total a 3-under 141 strokes and a tied-for-8th standing. Sophomores Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) and Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) are just a stroke behind Dornes and will enter the final 18 holes tied for 12th.
Senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) concluded day two of play making par with a 144 (73-71).
Freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) rounded out the Nittany Lion lineup, currently standing tied for 60th after carding a two-round score of 149.
Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest continues to hold the lead with a 10-under 134. Wake Forest has also maintained a team lead, ahead of second place East Tennessee State by five strokes.
