Shukow Qualifies for ITA Atlantic Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- As the qualifying round of the ITA Atlantic Regionals began Friday, Taylor Shukow (Boca Raton, Fla.) was one of 16 qualifiers battling for the final four spots in the singles bracket. Shukow defeated Evangeline Crist of Liberty 6-3, 6-4 in the qualifying quarterfinals. The sophomore then went on to beat Amber Washington of Pittsburgh 6-3, 7-5. The Boca Raton native earned her way into the singles bracket, as she is matched up with Dina Karina of Temple in the opening round beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Victoria Kisialeva (Toronto, Canada) is in action Saturday as she plays Gaby Rosales of Richmond at 1:30 p.m. The doubles team of Shukow and Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth) drew a bye in the first round and will compete against Crist and Thong of Liberty Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia), Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) had to withdraw from the tournament. Shukow and Whiteaway will replace the doubles team of Blik and Sapogova in the doubles draw.

The second day of the ITA Regionals takes place Saturday with doubles play beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by singles play starting at 11:00 a.m. Live scoring is available using the link: www.hokiesports.com/wtennis/brackets.
