KNOXVILLE,TENN.The Penn State women's golf team wrapped up the second day of the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate Championship in 14th place. The Nittany Lions finished the round with 301 strokes (+17), a 16-stroke improvement on their first round score. Penn State's two-day total of 618 (+50) puts the Lions within three shots of UT-Chattanooga for 13th spot and eight strokes of 12th-place Michigan.
Seniors Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) and Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) guided the Nittany Lions on the right path with a pair of 74s. Both Michel and Elliott played well on the back nine as Michel scored a one-under 34 and Elliott shot an even-par 35. Michel presently sits tied for 60st with a two-day total of 155, while Elliott is tied for 66th with a 156 after two rounds.
Junior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) continued her good form with three birdies on the day, carding a 76 (+5) to bring her two-round total to 151 (+9) to put her in 35th. Freshman Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Ireland) played consistently throughout the second day, finishing with +3 on each nine holes to card a 77 (+6). She sits in a tie for 66th after two rounds with a 156 total. Junior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) rounded out the Lions with an 82 (+11) on the day.
Louisville with 287 shots moved into first place atop the leaderboard. Louisville sits ahead of second place Kent State by three strokes. Nanna Madsen of South Carolina grabbed hold of the individual lead by firing a 69 (-2).
