UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team couldn't overcome a staunch Princeton defense and fell to the Tigers, 4-1, on Monday.

Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minnesota) notched a point in her sixth of eight games played this season, assisting on the Nittany Lions' (3-3-2) lone goal.

Princeton (1-1-0) scored the first goal of the game 8:20 in, thanks to Jaime McDonnell.

Just under 12 minutes into the second with the teams skating four-on-four, Penn State's top goal scoring duo of Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minnesota) and Petersen got the equalizer for the Nittany Lions. Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minnesota) fed the puck to Petersen, who threw it at the net. Bowman then quickly knocked in the rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

With just 58 seconds remaining in the period, however, the Tigers regained their lead off of a Cristin Shanahan goal

Princeton tacked on another two in the third, a powerplay goal and an empty netter, for the final 4-1 score.

Penn State's best chance to get on the board in the third was halfway through the final stanza. Bowman gained control of the puck in Princeton's farside circle and lifted it towards the net, but the puck ricocheted off the crossbar. The play went under review but was deemed to be no good.

Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minnesota) stopped 24 shots for the Blue and White, as her record moved to 1-1-2.

Penn State next travels to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. game on Fri., Oct. 31 and a 3 p.m. game on Sat. Nov. 1.
