Coyle Diez Maintains Lead Through Second Day of Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After the second day of play, freshman Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Ireland) extended her lead to six strokes on the field at Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course Saturday. The Nittany Lions as a team moved into 10th place in the standings heading into Sunday's final round.

The final round of the 2014 Nittany Lion Invitational will tee off tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Penn State Blue Course. Admission is free for all spectators and the first 50 fans will receive a free sleeve of Penn State logo golf balls.

Coyle Diez, who is competing as an individual, is the only player under par in the field with a three-under 141 for her two-day total. Her 141 is tied for the second-lowest 36-hole total in Penn State history, trailing only Ellen Ceresko's 138 at the 2012 Nittany Lion Invitational. Coyle Diez played consistently throughout the day with two birdies, three bogies, and 13 pars en route to a one-over (73).

Senior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) carded the best round of the day for the Nittany Lions with an even-par 72, shooting a 35 (-1) on the front nine. Elliott's two-day total of 150 (+6) puts her in a tie for 12th. Junior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Texas) finished a stroke behind Elliott for the day with a one-over 73. She is tied for 36 after two rounds with a +12 (156).

Senior Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) shot +4 (76) on the day and is tied for 44th individually, while seniors Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec) and Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) both carded 78s on the day and currently sit 48th and 51st, respectively, for the tournament.

Sophomores Meaghan Coleman (The Woodlands, Texas) and Kendall Allen (Pittsburgh, Pa.) are playing the tournament as individuals. Coleman finished the round with a four-over 76 and Allen finished the round with an 82 (+10).

Senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) was unable to play after deciding to withdraw for the day before setting foot on the course Saturday morning. Junior Kate Granahan (Allentown Pa.) was disqualified from the tournament.

Columbia leads the tournament after two days with 598 strokes (+22) followed by Yale at +23 and Harvard at +26.
