Penn State to Compete in 2015 USA Baseball-Irish Classic

Oct. 6, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State baseball team will participate in the third-annual USA Baseball-Irish Classic, USA Baseball and Notre Dame announced. The tournament will take place from Feb. 27 to March 1 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

"We are very excited to play in this year's Irish Classic," said head coach Rob Cooper. "It will be a great test for our program. Playing at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C., makes it even more special."

In addition to Penn State and host Notre Dame, the event also features Cincinnati, East Carolina, Iowa, NC State, Richmond and Seattle.

There will be 10 games played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, while two of NC State's contests will be played at Doak Stadium on the Wolfpack Campus.

Tickets for the USA Baseball-Irish Classic will be available for purchase on Oct. 20. Weekend passes are $30 per adult, with day passes available for $12. Seniors, college students with a valid ID, youth age 13-18 and groups can purchase passes for $25 for the tournament or $10 a day. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge.

Cooper has ties to USA Baseball. In October, Cooper was named the Rod Dedeaux USA Baseball Coach of the Year after steering the 18U National Team to an 8-1 record in World Cup play, including seven consecutive victories to finish out the gold-medal run.

The Nittany Lions will take on NC State on Feb. 27 (3 p.m.) at NC State's Doak Stadium before playing Cincinnati on Feb. 28 (12:30 p.m.) and Notre Dame on March 1 (10:30 a.m.). All times are subject to change.
