PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Day one of the Temple Open is officially complete with two Penn State fencers seeing top 8 finishes their events. The tournament will continue with men's competition on Sunday.
The first of two fencers to finish in the top 8 of their event include freshman Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.) who took first place in the women's saber competition. Freshman Jacqueline Rozpedowski (Flemington, N.J.) also competed in the event and tied for 43rd.
The other fencer to finish in the top 8 was sophomore Daniella Ortiz (Bayside, N.Y.) who locked in a tie for fifth place in her event of women's foil. Sophmore Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.) and freshman Kasey Iverson (Baskin Ridge, N.J.) also competed and placed 10th and 11th respectively in the event followed by freshman Najiyyah Clark's (Maplewood, N.J.) 22nd finish.
Freshmen Sara Moore (Woodbridge, Va.) and Julia Higson (State College, Pa.) finished 28th and 32nd, respectively in the women's epee event.
