WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind..; Nov. 5, 2014 - The No. 6 Penn State women's soccer team dropped its Big Ten Tournament debut, 1-0, to Northwestern on Wednesday.
The Big Ten regular season champions, Penn State (17-3) will find out its NCAA postseason fate on Mon., Nov. 10. The NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Selection Show is at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Eighth-seeded Northwestern (8-7-4) got on the board with 20 minutes left in full time. Michelle Manning's shot from the top of the box sailed over a diving Britt Eckerstrom (Germantown, Maryland) and into the net for the 1-0 score.
The Blue and White put seven shots on goal, including five in the second half. The Wildcats' defense was solid, blocking six shots.
The Nittany Lions' backline did not allow any shots on frame, as Eckerstrom's record moved to 17-3.
