Andrews, Gebhart Selected to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team

Nov. 9, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Senior captains Katie Andrews (Lancaster, Pa.) and Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) were each selected to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team, it was announced Sunday.

Andrews led a strong defensive effort by the Nittany Lions on the weekend. First, she helped the Nittany Lions blank Michigan State in the opening round on Nov. 6 for the squad's sixth shutout of the season. Then, Andrews and the Penn State defense held No. 2 Maryland to just 14 shots in the semifinals on Nov. 7, almost eight less than its season average of 21.9 coming into the game. The Terrapins, who averaged 4.42 goals per game coming into the contest, only found the back of the cage once.

Gebhart scored Penn State's only goal in the Big Ten Tournament. Early in the second half in the 1-0 win against the Spartans, the senior took the ball at the 25-yard line and drove it into the circle. After finding her way past a Michigan State defender, she fired the ball into the cage. Gebhart also put a shot on goal in the loss to Maryland. It was Gebhart's third selection of her career.

The two Penn State selections mark the 10th consecutive season that the Blue and White has had multiple players earn the honor. The Nittany Lions have now had 40 players awarded the accolade since the inception of the honor in 1997.

The NCAA Selection Show is live on NCAA.com tonight, Nov. 9 at 10 p.m. The NCAA Tournament first and second rounds take place on Nov. 15-16.
