Dec. 30, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State freshman guard Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the week-ending Dec. 29. She is the first Lady Lion to win Freshman of the Week accolades since Maggie Lucas earned the honor on Feb. 28, 2011. Lucas won a Big Ten-record eight awards that season.

Spann had a game-high 22 points in Penn State's Big Ten opener at Iowa on Sunday. She connected on a career-high four three-pointers and six free throws for her fourth 20-point performance in her last five games. She has three consecutive 20-point outings, becoming the first Penn State freshman to accomplish the feat since Lucas in 2010-11. Spann also pulled in five rebounds and dished out four assists against the Hawkeyes.

On the season, Spann leads the team and is 10th in the Big Ten in scoring with a 16.2 average. She is also second on the squad in steals (17) and assists (45).
