UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team continued its upward trend in the national rankings with the release of the latest Tournament Power Index (TPI) and individual rankings from Intermat. Head coach Cael Sanderson's squad moved up to No. 5 in the latest TPI and eight Lion wrestlers hold national rankings.
Junior Jordan Conaway (Abbottstown, Pa.) cracked the top ten and is ranked No. 10 at 125 with a 6-0 record. Sophomore Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.) is firm in the No. 5 spot at 133 with a 6-0 mark. Sophomore Zack Beitz (Mifflintown, Pa.) is 3-1 at 149 and ranked No. 13. Senior Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) is ranked No. 10 at 157 and is 0-0 on the year.
Senior Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah) moved up to No. 2 at 174 and is 6-0 on the year as well. Red-shirt freshman Matt McCutcheon (Apollo, Pa.) is 10-3 overall and ranked No. 19 at 184. Junior Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.) is 7-0 at 197 and ranked No. 4 and senior Jon Gingrich (Wingate, Pa.) is ranked No. 8 at 285 with a 4-0 record as well.
Penn State is 3-0 overall, 0-0 B1G, after crowning five champions at Sunday's Nittany Lion Open. Sanderson's squad opens up Big Ten action on Thursday night, visiting new conference rival Maryland for a 6 p.m. dual meet (which airs live on the Big Ten Network). Penn State's next home dual is set for Friday, Dec. 19, when Virginia Tech visits Rec Hall for a 7 p.m. match-up.
