McAdam Earns Big Ten Third Star of the Week

P enn State men's hockey sophomore goaltender Eamon McAdam (Perkasie, Pa.) was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week on Tuesday. The weekly award is the first of McAdam's career.

McAdam earned his third Big Ten win in four starts by saving 35 of 36 shots sent his way in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Ohio State. McAdam had 27 saves in the final two periods, allowing just one goal on a 5-on-3 power play.

McAdam's .972 save percentage was the best in the Big Ten this week and he boasts a .935 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average in his last three starts. The win on Saturday improved the Nittany Lions to 4-2-0-0 in the Big Ten and in a tie for first place with Michigan at 12 points.

Overall, McAdam has a 2.77 GAA and a .918 save percentage to accompany a 4-2-0 record. The sophomore has experienced a turnaround from his freshman campaign where he lost nine decisions and had a GAA of 4.09 and save percentage of .882.

Penn State continues its six-game home stand against Michigan State on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 16-17. Friday's game kicks off at 7 p.m., while Saturday's game is slated for a 5 p.m. puck drop on ESPNU. The Nittany Lions will be donning their long awaited third jerseys for Saturday's contest.
