Nittany Lions Fall in Competitive Match at No. 23 Northwestern

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa- The Penn State women's tennis team opened their conference schedule by falling to the No. 23 Northwestern Wildcats 4-3. Victoria Kisialeva (Toronto, Canada) fell to Alicia Barnett 6-2, 6-0. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) was defeated in straight sets by Erin Larner 6-2, 6-2.

Devan McCluskey lost to Alex Chatt 6-3, 6-2. Both Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) and Sam Tutelman (New York, N.Y.) picked up wins as their opponents retired once the match was settled. Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) tallied the win after Manon Peri was forced to retire due to injury.

Northwestern went up 1-0 early after capturing two of the three doubles matches. No. 34 ranked doubles pair of Kisialeva and Sapogova defeated No. 50 Brooke Rischbieth and Alicia Barnett 8-6. The duo now holds the best doubles record on the team with a 5-1 record during the spring season. McCluskey and Surin fell 8-5 to Manon Peri and Erin Larner while Alex Chatt and Lok Sze Leung beat Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) 8-5.

Penn State returns home for two weekend matches on THON weekend.
