PALM COAST, Fla. - The Penn State men's golf team concluded the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla. Monday afternoon with a 2-2-1 victory over Rutgers and a 5-0-0 loss to Wisconsin.
Sophomore Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) overcame Rutgers' Chase Wheatley by a score of 6 and 4, while freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) defeated Ryan Rose 7 and 6 in the Nittany Lions' first contest of the day. Sophomore Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) halved his hole with Louis Bodine of the Scarlet Knights in the morning's close match up.
Senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock Ark.) and junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) dropped their holes to Jacob Stockl and Toks Pedro, respectively, before the Blue and White were downed by No. 10 Wisconsin to even the team's two-day record at 2-2.
It was Illinois that earned its second Big Ten Match Play Championship crown, sweeping the competition by a total of 9-6-0 at the Hammock Beach Resort.
Penn State will resume its spring slate on March 1 when the squad travel to Virginia for a match play against Richmond.
