P enn State women's lacrosse goalie Emi Smith (Denver, Colo.) was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Smith made 10 saves in a 15-7 victory over Lehigh on Saturday for the 10th-ranked Nittany Lions. Smith made six saves in the second half during Penn State's decisive 5-0 run to open the frame. The junior goalie also picked up a ground ball in the victory.
The award is the first for the Penn State program as it navigates through the inaugural Big Ten campaign. Smith shares the award with Rutgers netminder Candice Dandrige who also made 10 saves and allowed seven goals.
Offensive player of the week went to Maryland's Zoe Stukenberg, while freshman of the week was awarded to Megan Whittle.
Smith and the Nittany Lions will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Bucknell at Holuba Hall. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
