Hernandez Advances to Winter Cup Finals

LAS VEGAS
- With his sights set on his third-straight Winter Cup pommel horse title, senior Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.) advanced to the finals of the Winter Cup on the pommel horse Thursday night.

Hernandez tied for fifth on the pommel horse in the preliminary round with his score of 14.900. Ellis Mannon (Minnesota) and Donothan Bailey (UC Berkeley) are tied for the lead with their score of 15.250.

Heading into the meet, Hernandez has posted scores of 15.300 or better in three out of his five routines. He currently holds the school record score of 15.950, set earlier this year against Michigan (1/24).

Trevor Howard (Columbus, Ohio) also competed Thursday night. Howard finished 30th in the all-around competition with his score of 79.800.

In the all-around competition, Howard recorded scores of 13.000 (floor exercise), 11.550 (pommel horse), 13.800 (still rings), 14.900 (vault), 12.900 (parallel bars) and 13.650 (high bar).

The finals of the Winter Cup are set for a 7:15 p.m. (PST) start on Feb. 21.
